Pre-apprentice Lineworker Program
April 12 - May 28, 2010 on the Decatur Campus
Background
- Program was structured with input from the Tennessee Valley Public Power Association (TVPPA) Apprentice program, regional and statewide utilities, cooperatives, and electric contractors, along with best practices from other lineworker training programs.
- Calhoun, Central Alabama and Wallace (Dothan) Community Colleges offer the Alabama Lineworker Pre-apprentice course to prepare individuals for entry into a Lineworker Apprentice program.
- Program approved for WIA funding.
- Program offered regionally, based on industry need and demand.
Program Content
- 280 contact hours of training, 7 weeks, 40 hours per week
- Assessments … WorkKeys, DiSC, and CAST
- Soft Skills … Work Ethics, Positive Image, Effective Communications, Team Work, Problem Solving, Embracing Change, Resume Writing, and Interviewing
- Technical Skills … Lineworker Fitness, Safety (OSHA 10 hr), CPR/First Aid, Electrical Fundamentals, Ratios & Proportions, AC Theory, Lineworker Tools, Map Reading, Pole Climbing School (TVPPA Lab), Measurements, Line Hardware, CDL Training and Certification, Lineworker Field Observations.
Cost
