Aesculus pavia - Slide #2
Usually a small, shrubby plant, Red Buckeye occasionally attains small tree size in favorable habitats. Along Elk River in Limestone County I have seen some specimens that are 15 feet tall. Seeds and young leaves of this plant are poisonous to humans when consumed. The famous Ohio Buckeye, Aesculus glabra, also occurs in North Alabama. |
