Smaller version of the familiar Blue Flag Iris that rarely stands more than 6 inches tall. It is quite common in the mountainous regions of North Alabama, but reaches its peak of abundance in Tennessee, and is actually the state flower of that state. There are several beautiful stands of this flower in Great Smoky Mountains National Park that bloom magnificently in late April and early May.
