Monarda citriodora - Slide #54

A beautiful mint that prefers calcium-rich soils, and is more common in Alabama's Black Belt region in the southern half of the state. This picture was taken near the campus of Geroge C. Wallace State Community College in Selma, AL. Notice how some of the bracts in the inflorescence are colored like flower petals to make the actual flowers more obvious to pollinators.
