Arisaema triphyllum - Slide #6

A unique wildflower that is quite common in rich moist woods of Alabama. The "flower" is actually an INFLORESCENCE (flower cluster). The "pulpit" is a modified leaf called the SPATHE, and "jack" is a spike of flowers called the SPADIX. Flowers appear in the early spring and later the flowers are replaced by colorful clusters of red berries.
