Passiflora incarnata - Slide #30

Common roadside and fencerow vine that blooms in the late spring or early summer. The blossoms of this plant are incredible and to some people resemble Jesus on the cross. For this reason it is sometimes called the "Crucifixion Flower". I don't see it myself, but maybe I've been a biologist for too long. This is one of the few North American species of a family that is common in the tropics of South America. The tropical plants are the source of passionfruit juice.
