An aptly named wildflower that occurs sporadically in North Alabama, but is usually associated with deep, rich woods. This photo was taken in Paint Rock Valley in Jackson County Alabama. There is a spectacular hillside in the north end of the valley near the Tennessee line that is absolutely covered with these flowers - awesome sight in early spring.
