Tradescantia virginiana - Slide #38
Photographed at Lake Payne near Tuscaloosa, AL in the early 80's. Spiderworts bloom in late spring or early summer and each flower typically lasts for only one day before it is replaced by a new one. The suffix "wort" means herb or plant and this plant received its name from the cobweb appearance of the hairy stamens as seen in this photo. This is one of my favorite photographs. |
