Trout Lily
Full List
Erythronium umbilicatum - Slide #13

Trout lily is an early spring bloomer and one member of a very widespread genus that occurs throughout North America. The foliage is quite distinct and recent studies have indicated that trout lilies play an important role in forest ecology by capturing soil nutrients from leaf decay in the early spring before tree roots have become active. Later, as the lily foliage decays the nutrients are returned to the trees.
