Twisted Trillium
Full List
Trillium stamineum - Slide #46

Like most Trillium species this one is most common in rich deep woods that are relatively undisturbed. Such habitats are increasingly harder to find and for this reason most Trillium are infrequent to rare in our woods. This one is fairly abundant in Monte Sano State park and in portions of Bankhead National Forest. Notice how the petals of each flower are twisted into a spiral shape about halfway up the petal.
