I don't know where the common name Wild Oats came from either - I prefer another common name for this plant - Bellwort. The hanging flowers actually resemble small bells in this fairly common spring wildflower. This photo was taken in Newsome Sinks in Morgan County - a truly remarkable wildflower area.
