"A bad day outside is better than a good day inside!"

I have four separate pages devoted to the great outdoors on this site. I put links to the home pages of all the National Parks and Monuments that I have visited. Some of you may have visited more than I have - why not check it out and see if your list is longer than mine. I have also discovered several very nice Hiking Pages that you should visit if you have an interest in that activity. My latest interest involves documenting the Float Trips that I have taken in my Old Town Discovery 158 canoe. Finally, I put in some links to Wildflower Pages - an interest of mine for some 25 years or so!
Nature has a rejuvenating effect on all those who take the time to enjoy her glories. There is more to life than work, bills, and problems. Experience the world outside your door and marvel at how nature sustains us, challenges us, and humbles us, but remains alluring.
Horsemint, Monarda citriodora, is common on prairie soils rich in calcium. This photo was taken in Selma, AL, in the 1980's.
Squawroot, Conopholis americana, is a root parasite of trees that only appears aboveground during its spring blooming and fruiting phase. The remainder of the year it feeds directly from the roots of its host plant !
Foamflower, Tiarella cordifolia, photographed in Bankhead National Forest (4/16/00). Tiny, delicate flowers grace this plant in early spring in Alabama's rich woods. To really appreciate the beauty of the flowers you will have to stop and kneel down and take a really close look. Not bad advice for most of your walk through life!
